Your mind is your own: Our commitment to your privacy

The default assumption today is that every tool needs an account, a server and a constant connection, quietly turning your usage into data points. We refuse to accept that as the standard. StarJot is not a web service masquerading as an app; it is proper, local software that runs directly on your device. And when it comes to your personal notes, that local-first approach is not just a nice-to-have. It is an absolute necessity.

Note-taking is deeply intimate. It is where you draft difficult conversations, outline half-baked business ideas, vent frustrations and store the important details of your daily life.

Yet, many of the most popular note-taking applications today default to hosting your thoughts on their servers. They require accounts, email addresses and monthly subscriptions. They introduce the inherent risk of data breaches, unauthorised access and silent background analytics.

We think that is fundamentally wrong.

The StarJot commitment

Your brain is a treasure, and the act of getting an idea out of your head and into the real world is magic. Because your thoughts are yours, they must stay yours.

Whether it is a fleeting moment of genius, an unfinished plan, a to-do list for your day or a private reflection, your ideas belong strictly in your orbit: secure, private and untouchable. No prying eyes. No data mining.

We take this foundational right to privacy incredibly seriously, and believe you should never have to entrust your raw, forming thoughts to any platform that treats your mind as a commodity. Your mind is your own; your notes must be too.

Zero-data by design

It is easy for a company to say they value your privacy in a lengthy legal document. We decided to prove it in our architecture.

StarJot operates on a strict zero-data principle. This is the absolute best practice in data minimisation.

  • No accounts: We don't ask for your email address, your name or a password. You just download the app and start writing.
  • No servers: We do not have cloud servers sitting in a data centre quietly hoovering up your jots. Any note you create remains entirely local to your Apple device.
  • No telemetry: We do not track your usage, map your clicks or integrate third-party advertising trackers.

Secure iCloud syncing

We know that true productivity means being able to access your thoughts whether you are at your desk or on the move.

To achieve this without compromising our zero-data promise, StarJot utilises Apple's native iCloud infrastructure. If you choose to enable syncing, your notes are stored in a dedicated folder securely on your own iCloud.

This means your data flows directly between your devices and Apple's encrypted ecosystem. We (Going Bold Ltd) have absolutely zero access to your iCloud account, your Apple ID or the notes you write. Furthermore, by enabling Apple's Advanced Data Protection, you can ensure your notes benefit from true end-to-end encryption.

We built StarJot to be blisteringly fast and beautifully simple, but above all, we built it to be a safe haven for your mind.

Capture your thoughts. Connect your ideas. Keep them entirely yours.
